I currently live in Edmonton, Alberta, where I was born and raised during my childhood days. My love of creating art along with travel and photography are my life goals. In 2003, I became a victim of tongue cancer and after a long career as an engraver/graphic artist I have stepped away from the computer. I decided to devote my creative energy to slapping down paint, making shapes, tweaking texture and slippin’ in some light: painting still life, landscapes, flowers and other familiar subjects that strike my fancy. I love it!

Over the years, drawing has been a constant in my life, providing a strong basis for observation and careful rendering. Now as an upcoming painter, I enjoy combining the subtlety and sensitivity of drawing with the richness and vibrancy of oil paint. Relishing the pure, fresh color and honoring traditional realism, my paintings focus on texture, and form to describe antiques and ordinary objects. I continue to try my hand at other mediums and recently have found colored pencil painting to be very enjoyable.

There’s a nostalgic warmth to everyday things. I love to wander garage sales and shops where I pick up items that intrigue me because of their shape, luminosity of capacity for reflection...or maybe they just remind me of my mother’s kitchen! Rendering translucency, reflection and texture in still life is what makes me smile! Ordinary, everyday objects seem to have stories to tell and there are beautiful moments of unexpected color and reflection to discover. Still life offers a great variety of subjects, surfaces and luminosity. So many objects to paint, endless combinations of color and texture.

My years as an engraver allowed me to creatively communicate meaningful ideas and I have enjoyed that work thoroughly. Now, with painting, communication involves a personal interpretation of relationships with the composition: light, color, form and atmosphere. The meaning and beauty of those relationships is my gift to you, the viewer. Enjoy!
