Rob Guetre
I have been drawing since early childhood and never lost the fascination I had in creating visual stories.
Sadly, I did not pursue visual art as anything more than a hobby and only became serious about developing the skills much later, when I realized my young daughter was following the same path. It was out of a desire to encourage her, that set me on this journey.
Although most of my work is rendered realistically, I admire and attempt to emulate the looser techniques of some of the impressionists. I sense a need to develop a personal style and this affords me freedom to experiment, which I very much enjoy. For me, realism remains the basis from which I can begin my exploration.
I am not there yet. I find something to admire and emulate in Sargent’s work, in Rembrandt’s, in Van Gogh’s, in many artists of the past. For me, this is a path of discovery. I doubt I’ll ever stop learning.
Rob currently holds the position of Newsletter Editor and Production Director for the Edmonton Art Club.
