Yvonne Bilan-Wallace

A long professional career as a meteorologist saw Yvonne witness dramatic changes in weather, its impact on society and the natural environment, and in particular the Canadian arctic. Nature, disruptions to the natural rhythms, unintended consequences of human actions and ensuing global chaos continue to reappear as themes in her artistic voice.

Having always loved art, she abruptly gave up on pursuing it further during high school. Instead, she chose to spend over 3 decades in atmospheric sciences. In 2000 she decided to make a photo memory quilt for her mother, who had developed dementia. It inspired her to return to her 1st loves of textiles and art. On retirement in 2013 she picked up paint brushes again, after over 40 years.

In addition to using watercolour and acrylic mediums, as a mixed media artist, her work uses textiles, felting, eco printing, photography, natural dyes, recycled items, stitch and inking techniques to tell a particular story. She has exhibited in Alberta, across Canada and internationally.
