Yvonne Bilan-Wallace

Yvonne Bilan-Wallace is a mixed-media artist whose work has been exhibited both across Canada and internationally. Her artistic journey is deeply rooted in curiosity and an ever-evolving exploration of materials. Inspiration often emerges from the natural world—its rhythms, colours, and fragility.

While she works with traditional mediums such as ink, watercolour, gouache, and acrylics, Yvonne continually pushes beyond convention. Her practice embraces experimentation, transforming unexpected materials into expressive tools. Earth pigments mixed with soya milk become fabric paints; plants are foraged, ground for dye, or imprinted in textiles; wool fibers are felted as though they were strokes of paint; thread becomes a drawing tool, sketching lines and textures across cloth and paper.

Her studio has become a laboratory of artistic alchemy where process and play intersect. Each idea carries its own story, and for Yvonne, the challenge and joy lie in discovering the right medium—or often a fusion of mediums—that will bring that story to life. Her work invites viewers to see the familiar in unexpected ways, to consider the interplay between material and message, and to reflect on the connections between art, nature, and human responsibility.
