Karen McFarlane

I have always been interested in art, especially in depicting organic forms, both human and inanimate. I took all the art courses I could while in high school and in university.

I taught the high school art curriculum for three years. (My teaching career was mostly in the Academic Upgrading area in community colleges, where English literature was the main subject I taught.) I completed the Fine Arts Diploma at the Grande Prairie Regional College in 1987.

After moving to Grande Prairie, I worked with the Grande Prairie art group that met weekly at the library for several years. When I moved to Whitecourt, I began working with the Society of Whitecourt Arts Council (SWAC) group. In Whitecourt, I participated in several group shows with the SWAC artists and also had a solo show entitled “Reflections.”

While in Whitecourt, I taught a couple of watercolor courses at my cabin studio on our property. I also taught a series of drawing lessons at ARTickles Gallery and another series at Pat Hardy School, primarily for the teachers there. I have been working mainly in pastel.
