Susan was born and raised in Edmonton,
Alberta Canada. Susan's earliest drawing was when she was eight.
Susan sketched a picture of a rabbit in the snow that was inspired
by a story of Peter Rabbit. By the time Susan was eleven she won
her first art award in school for making an anti-litter poster.
When Susan was in high school she was driven by her high school
art teacher, Mr. Passmore. Mr. Passmore had given her the greatest
inspiration because of his encouragement and his love for art taught
her how to embrace art and develop the talent she had. He introduced
Susan to watercolors and since then there's been no turning back.
She has discovered a world where she can create any color, shadow,
or subject from life.
Throughout most of Susan's earlier years she was self-taught, until
2003 when she won a watercolor scholarship from the Edmonton Art
Club. With this scholarship Susan decided to pursue her Fine Art
Certificate through the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension.
It is through this pursuit that Susan has realized how much she
enjoys teaching. Susan has had the opportunity to teach beginner
watercolor classes and she realizes she loves motivating, inspiring
and encouraging other people to paint and to see the world from
the eye of an artist. Showing people they can do things they didn't
think they could.
Susan has exhibited at various venues with the Edmonton Art Club.
These venues include Johnson's Gallery, Muttart Conservatory and
Manulife Place. Her work displays energy through color, light and
shadow and captures life in its unique form. "I loved
drawing and painting from the beginning. I love to make my flat
painting surface appear three dimensional and to spark the emotion
in my viewer. In my work I welcome my viewer into a world that I
see. I celebrate life and create it where a part of me is in every
piece of art I make".
