I received my Bachelor of
Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta.
After graduating in 1996, I worked with Environmental protection
for two years as a graphic designer and assisted a local artist
run an airbrush fine art and graphics company. I joined the Edmonton
Art Club in 2001.
I paint both landscape and
botanical themes alternating
between abstract and representational images. As a result I have
many diverse pieces using various mediums. All of my work is inspired
through the observation of nature's endless arrangements of line,
color and form.
My abstract landscape paintings
were recently shown at
the Solaris Gallery in New Jersey. I portray landscape through a
colourful array of simplified, flowing compositions.
For my floral series, I chose to use the white of
the paper as the background to emphasize the radiance
of each flower. It is the flower's endless variations
of line and color that inspires me to paint.
I enjoy the spontaneity and
the expressionistic process
involved in creating abstract images and the freedom to
experiment with different mediums. My influences are
Georgia O'Keeffe, Charles Demuth, Helen Frankenthaler,
Wassily Kandinsky, and Emily Carr.
